Man Utd to Sign Superstar in January & Challenge for Title?
It is no secret that Manchester United has been in a bit of a rebuilding phase since the retirement of Sir Alex. The team hasn’t been having a poor season by any means, and only continues to improve, currently occupying a Champions League spot. But following the sixth scoreless tie of the season and failing to get into the UCL knockout phase, fans are growing tired of the defensive approach of manager Louis van Gaal and are clamouring for the high-scoring days of old.
While the team’s defence is one of the best, and boasts the least goals against in the Premier League, the Red Devils are still failing to score goals with the frequency that fans have come to expect. Even though the team currently sits in fourth place on total points, it is 8th in the league in goals scored. Goal difference could very well be the deciding factor between United and a title at the end of the season.
Now that the team’s defensive problems seem to have been fixed, Van Gaal can refocus his energies on bolstering the team’s attack. Arguably, we are only one or two players away from becoming the dominant force that fans know and love once more. And that could change with the winter transfer window.
The one thing the team really needs is a match-winner who can score goals when his squad needs them most. In short, the team needs a player on the level of Cristiano Ronaldo, and it looks as though this is exactly what Manchester United is planning to do. The Mirror reports that the team is interested in signing a major superstar with rumours of Gareth Bale, Neymar and Ronaldo all being major targets. A world-class player would be just the thing the Red Devils need to secure their bid for the Premier League title, and it could be decisive in United’s hunt for silverware.
According to Betfair, Manchester United remain very much in title contention with strong odds to take it all. With a couple very winnable matches coming up in the schedule, the site notes that the team could find itself back in first place by Christmas.
It’s little secret that both Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have had their fair share of differences at Real Madrid. Former Manchester United star Paul Ince told Metro that he feels that the Red Devils have the financial wherewithal to bring Bale back to England.
“As a player when you get an inkling the club wants to sell you and you don’t feel welcome then you want to leave and ultimately Manchester United have the money,” Ince said.
Bale has had a tough time fitting in at Madrid and Ronaldo’s relationship with Rafa Benitez has seen better days. So, it comes as no surprise that both players have hinted that they are open to a return to top-flight English football. If there’s one team that could manage to pull off a massive transfer like this, it’s Manchester. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the team splash more than a little cash for a big-name player this transfer season.
If United can manage to maintain their formidable defensive discipline while boosting the attack, a return to former glory might not be that far away.
