Man Utd 0-1 West Brom: Another Shambolic Performance

Where would we be if we hadn’t managed to turn it on against Spurs, Liverpool and City? Prior to that, we were very ordinary at best, and since the City game we have been pretty dreadful, especially the loss last week at Goodison and now at home against West Brom.

After last week’s shambolic display, I believe we all expected a different United to show up at home to lowly Albion, who predictably played 11 men behind the ball. We just didn’t have a clue how to break them down – no quick passing, no movement off the ball, and all so slow and predictable. Any team in the 4 divisions could probably have kept a clean sheet.

Whether we get 4th or not, we still have some serious problems to address in the summer; 3 really good performances over a whole season is NOT ENOUGH.

Too Much Mediocrity

Too many players are not good enough for the very highest level at this time. Blind is a good squad player but not top, top quality. The same can be said for Valencia, Fellaini, Young and Jones. McNair may turn out to be good enough, but is not at this present time. Whist Di Maria was wasteful when he came on, he also put more decent balls into the box in the short time he was on the pitch than Young and Valencia did in 94 minutes combined.

We have a serious striker problem. RVP‘s time at United has surely come to an end, and since when is he a playmaker? I didn’t understand why Van Gaal moved him almost into central midfield – if you don’t trust him as a striker, either don’t play him or remove him. As for his penalty miss, why did he take it? He’s not played in 6 weeks, and wasn’t exactly playing with confidence. There were probably 6-7 other players who would have buried it. Falcao is obviously pretty much finished following his injury, whilst loaning out Chicharito and selling Welbeck is looking like a big mistake by Van Gaal, as all season we have had no one to come off the bench to nick us a goal; a Solksjaer or Chicharito.

Also, it’s time to stop blaming our poor performances on missing Carrick. Most United fans have not sung his praises that often during his career at Old Trafford, and yet now all we hear is our bad form is due to Carrick not playing. Yes, we miss him and his influence on the game, but it’s an unacceptable excuse for a club like United.

“Twitchy Asses” Ahoy

I feel angry and frustrated at United, and find it hard to believe just how bad we were these last 2 games. Until we get over the line for that 4th spot, there’s going to be some nervous viewing. Considering just how poor Liverpool have been, that’s pretty unacceptable.

So we need 5 points from 3 games to be guarantee the top 4 finish. Unfortunately, none of these last 3 games are considered easy, and we need to start this last 3 game run with a win at Palace next week, and hope Chelsea can do us the favour of beating Liverpool.
