United’s Class of 2016 injects fresh hope, but is it too little, too late?

We have entered March on a bit of a high. We’re through to the quarter finals of the FA Cup , in the last 16 of the Europa League, and level on points with our noisy neighbours in 4th and 5th place respectively.

For many fans, this season has mostly been one of great disappointment – not only the results, but the way we have played, but during these past couple of weeks we’ve seen a more familiar-looking United than what’s materialised over the past 18 months .

I think LVG deserves credit for what he has done these past few weeks. I, along with the majority of the media and millions of vocal fans, have been slaughtering him all season, but he could so easily have packed the midfield, played Memphis up top and left Rashford on the bench, so whilst in reality the injuries have worked in his favour, he took the gamble and it has so far paid off.

Of course us United fans had some further bad injury news yesterday – apparently Fellaini is nearly fit again! The test will be when players like Rooney and Fellaini are available, what will LVG do? If these kids keep getting results, surely he won’t just put senior players back in the team and go back to the sideways and backwards football that we have been witnessing until very recently.

The next few weeks are certainly going to be very interesting, and will most likely determine if Van Gaal gets another crack at it next season or not.
